Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday said they will focus on improving the lives of Kenyans and will not be distracted by those keen to disrupt the government.
Speaking at Chepsir Primary School in Kipkelion East, Kericho County, the DP said President William Ruto had laid down an extensive plan to develop the country and wouldn’t lose sight of what he intends to do for the country.
“Let the President work. They can continue demonstrating but we will remain focused on serving our people. Our interest is improving their lives,” said Mr Gachagua, who was the chief guest during the thanksgiving ceremony for Water Principal Secretary Paul Rono.
The Deputy President also said former President Uhuru Kenyatta had been appointed by President Ruto to lead peace missions in Africa and should be left to do so without being distracted by local politics.
The DP, who was on a development tour of the county, said enhancing agricultural production in the region was on top of their agenda.The quest to improve incomes from tea, coffee, potato and dairy farming was on course, Mr Gachagua assured residents. During the tour, the DP made stops at various sites where he reiterated the administration’s resolve to develop the country.
Speaking when he presided over the distribution of subsidised fertiliser to farmers at the National Cereals and Produce Board, Kedowa Depot in Kipkelion, the DP s aid that the main intention is to make available bags of fertilizer at the doorstep of farmers ahead of the expected rain and subsequent planting season.
“We promised to uplift the farmers and add value to our agricultural produce, we have enough fertilizer in this depot for our farmers. I urge farmers to register with the assistant chief and chiefs to get access to the farm inputs,” he said.
The deputy president also broke the ground for the construction of the National Government/CDF offices at Londiani town. He noted the tremendous positive change that the NG/CDF had brought to the people of Kenya since its establishment while urging the legislators to ensure prudent and fair distribution of the funds, more so, for disadvantaged families.
“We are determined to deliver reforms in the tea, coffee and milk subsectors for maximum benefit to our farmers for improved quality of life,” he added.
At Londiani Forest College where he commissioned the Londiani Forestry College Borehole, he reiterated the commitment to plant and grow over 15 billion trees by 2032.
“Our aim is to raise the forest cover so that we deal with climate change and reclaim the friendlier weather patterns including predictable rainy seasons,” he said.
The College will play a key role in the ongoing tree-planting as it will be the source of the technical hands required for the success of this project.
Mr Gachagua also called on the assistant chiefs, chiefs and other national government administration officers at the counties to intensify efforts to end the illicit brew that has continued to destroy the youth.
He pleaded with the youth of Kipkelion to stop the consumption of the brew as it has no substantial benefits.
