Frustrated Mt Kenya hustlers turn to song and dance as their “kingpin” DP Gachagua is kicked out

Shocked and angered by the impeachment of their “kingpin” DP Rigathi Gachagua, and the fast-paced political developments in the country, Mt Kenya hustlers have turned to song and dance to sooth their troubled hearts.

And it has emerged that as the political confusion rages on, the hustlers are organising a “mother of all rallies” where they plan to offer a public apology to former President Uhuru Kenyatta for dishonoring him and stealing his sheep.

This is a sudden change of fortunes for former President Uhuru who only a year ago appeared like an anathema in the region, highly disliked to a point where hustlers raided his family farm on the Eastern Bypass stole his sheep, destroyed trees in a shocking display of anger.

As his ratings soar, his 63rd birthday was marked across the region including by sitting MPs who cut, ate cakes and exchanged gifts. Uhuru also spoke on Kameme FM where he said he harbors no bitterness with any one and urged the region and the country to remain united.

Cultural Re-birth

Across Mt Kenya, a new wave of re-awakening has hit the region where deep messages of political resistance, cultural renaissance and calls for unity are being passed on through song and dance.

The region is reverberating with music with a frustrated populace seeking solace in old traditional tunes traced back to the difficult days of the Mau Mau war when the region rose against and defeated the White colonisers and the local collaborators.

Clubs across the region are playing Kikuyu cultural songs with deep and sometimes hidden meanings and which are received with great enthusiasm by the patrons. The patrons are also singing anti-government and anti-President Ruto songs putting these Club’s managements at loggerheads with the authorities.

The social media is also awash with the songs that can only be described as “Kikuyu Patriotic Songs”. Long forgotten songs sung by legends like Joseph Kamaru have suddenly been brought back to life and are now trending with the younger generations struggling to decipher their deep meanings.

Turning Point

A concert to launch a new song by a local musician Sir James on Sunday at the Ndumberi stadium in Kiambu appears to have been the turning point.

The stadium was filled to capacity with numbers never witnessed before and many of the attendees carried the Kenyan flags an echo from the Gen Z protests of June 25.

The unprecedented mammoth crowd though extremely orderly appeared to control the proceedings and the key highlight was when they demanded to celebrate the birthday of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Gospel Musician popularly known as Sir James (wearing the flowing dress) who had organised the concert to launch his new song “Ngai Mutheri” at the Ndumberi Stadium in Kiambu County. The event was overrun by flag carrying hustlers who demanded political and cultural songs.

It is not yet clear who or how the rally to apologise to Uhuru will be organised but observers have noted a restless region looking for answers over the current political and economic abyss they find themselves in.

This is a region that voted to a man for the current political regime that came with lofty promises, the economic situation has been troubling and the impeachment of their “face” in government DP Gachagua has created deep wounds.
