Sideline DP Gachagua and forget Mt Kenya votes, Nyeri governor warns President Ruto

Firebrand Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga has warned President Ruto that any further attempts to sideline Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will see the little support he still enjoys in Mt Kenya permanently erased.

The outspoken governor further warned President Ruto that as he re-constitutes his Cabinet the 8 slots that were held by sons and daughters of Mt Kenya must still be retained or he will face serious resistance.

He said it would be unacceptable to deny Mt Kenya Region that gave him more than 3.5 million votes its rightful share of government as he sought to bring in people who did not vote for him in what Kahiga described as a big political blunder.

The governor was speaking this morning on Kameme FM where he was a guest during the popular morning show hosted by veteran journalist Gatonye wa Mbugua and recently crowned Bishop Kiengei.

“We are telling the President that, while we know it is his duty to name the Cabinet, he should remember to reserve the 8 slots that were held by Mt Kenya sons and daughters. Failure to do this, he should forget the remaining support he still has,” said Kahiga.

Kahiga who is increasingly sounding like the mouthpiece for DP Gachagua, said it was regrettable that the President did not inform his deputy when he was firing the Cabinet. He said Gachagua saw the news like anybody else in the media.

He said he does not understand why Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi who was not elected alongside Ruto and Gachagua was retained and should be fired immediately.

Responding to a question regarding a past statement by Ruto to the effect that his running mate for 2027 will be a woman, Kahiga said if that will be the case, they will dress Gachagua as woman and they will settle for nothing less.

He said Gachagua was “eyes” of Mt Kenya in government and anybody disrespecting him was disrespecting not just the 3.5million voters who voted for Ruto but the entire Mt Kenya population.
