The swift political coup against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was completed today after he was ejected out of President Ruto’s ruling party – the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Gachagua who held the position of Deputy Party Leader of the UDA party was replaced by his successor Prof Kithure Kindiki who was last week sworn as the Deputy President following the impeachment of his predecessor.
The announcement was made by UDA chairperson and Embu County Governor Ms Cecil Mbarire after an UDA party National Executive Committee meeting in Nairobi.
Mbarire announced that Gachagua having been impeached as Deputy President was unable to serve the party as the deputy party leader and that UDA NEC had nominated Prof Kindiki as his replacement.
Political fortunes for the former deputy president appear to have dwindled fast but he has maintained a steadfast defiance promising to make a major political statement in the new year.
On Sunday he told his supporters to remain calm and continue with their day-to-day activities promising to annouce the political direction he wants the region to take from next year.
And he took a swipe at his former boss President Ruto accusing him of abandoning the hustlers especially mama mboga and boda boda riders whom he said have since been forgotten. He challenged President Ruto to keep his promises saying he will soon meet with the wrath of the people if he does not.
On his impeachment, Gachagua said he was fired for standing with the people against the brutality of the government that had gone against the promises it had made to the people especially on violent evictions.
He said he would continue to defend the government despite the harassment and the huge political prize he has been forced to pay.
Gachagua the charges against him were all malicious and noted that on the issue of violent evictions, even the courts had agreed with him and ordered that the victims be compensated – meaning that the charge against him falls flat on its face.
