Boost for dairy farmers as government distributes 650 milk coolers

A high profile Dairy Sector meeting chaired by President Ruto has resolved to distribute 650 milk coolers to farmers.

The meeting held at State House Nakuru directed that the coolers to be distributed through cooperative societies who will then be linked to processors.

A notable absentee was Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who says he was allocated the docket of streamlining milk, coffee and tea sectors.

Instead the DP was in Narok at the invitation of local MP for the celebrations to mark the International Day of the Girl Child.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi said the meeting was an engagement forum on enhancing competitiveness and expanding value added opportunities for our dairy sector.

“It was agreed that the government will distribute 650 milk coolers to farmers through cooperative societies who will be linked to processors as part of Kenya Kwanza’s plan to boost milk quality, quantity, and prices,” said Linturi.

He said his ministry and partners will craft a plan to empower farmers, processors, and stakeholders.

Linturi said they were tackling milk quality issues and finding ways to reduce costs for animal feed and packaging materials.
