A humbled COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli meets President Ruto at State House

By HARRIET WANJIKU

A rather humbled COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has met President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi together with other leaders from the Luhya  community.

It is remembered that Atwoli led a very noisy campaign against Ruto and had sworn that Ruto would never win or rule Kenya.

In the picture with Ruto at State House, Atwoli cut an image of a meet politician a big contrast from the firebrand Azimio die hard just two months ago.

Atwoli’s move comes few days after he gave signals of working with the Kenya Kwanza government and appeared to shift support from Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Leader Raila Odinga.

He later posted on his social media saying he had paid a courtesy call to the Head of State for discussions on Kenya’s ratification of ILO C190 and outsourcing of labour.

“This morning I paid a courtesy call to H.E President William Ruto whereby we held discussions on Kenya’s ratification of ILO C190 and outsourcing of labour. I also sought an appointment with the Head of State to meet and share with all @COTU_K Affiliated General Secretaries,” Atwoli tweeted.

Atwoli was in Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja camp in the run-up to the August 9 general election and he campaigned fiercely against Ruto’s presidency, at one point going on record stating that Ruto will never succeed former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Others who accompanied him are Prime cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale, former Kakamega gubernatorial candidate Cleophas Malala and Rashid Echesa, among others.
