Kagure lights up faces of children with special needs from Mukuru slum as she celebrates her birthday with them

Prominent Nairobi business woman and gubernatorial candidate Agnes Kagure celebrated her 47th birthday in the most unlikely of places – Mukuru slums and with the most unlikely of guests – children’s with special needs.

In a heart warning gesture, Kagure decided to celebrate her special day with the children from Mukuru slums avoiding the plush hotels where celebrities like herself normally mark their birthdays with champagne and chocolate.

But for Kagure she took time to tour the slum and spend time with children with special needs where she made a generous contribution to their institution as well as making donations to the residents who expressed great joy.

Kagure said she was grateful to God to add her another year and that she was happy to dedicate the day to be with those who do not enjoy much of life’s comforts in Nairobi.

“To thank God for the gift of life and His favour to me, I extended his work by being with the less fortunate and bringing sunshine to them on my special day,’’ she said.

Kagure a renowned mentor for the youth has always found special ways of marking her birthday with events that has built her an image of a selfless person who is keen on uplifting the less privileged.

While marking her birthday last year, she spent her time with street children at the rehabilitated John Michuki Memorial Park where she also started a program where he identities skilled street children and then sponsors them for further training.

The program that is still ongoing has seen several street children benefit with better skills that have changed the trajectories of their lives for the better.

She has also spent time with elderly as she continues to reach out to persons in the forgotten sections of the society.

Kagure is gunning to be the next governor on Nairobi and is promising to run the county is a different way and giving development a human face to ensure every City resident benefits from a better managed Capital City.
