President Ruto has directed National Treasury to commence livestock off-take programme in 13 drought stricken Counties from next week.

The livestock off-take initiative that’s aimed at cushioning farmers due to the prolonged drought will be done in conjunction with the Kenya Meat Commission to guarantee safety of the meat.

He was accompanied by Livestock PS Harry Kimutai, Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, area Senator Samuel Seki among other Government officials.

The team visited Sajiloni and Isinya livestock markets and saw first hand the sad affair facing livestock farmers due to the high number of livestock deaths caused by the prolonged drought.

He said the Government will continue with mitigation efforts to help communities severely affected by the ravaging drought.
