Ruto hits back at Gachagua, says former DP demanded a Sh 10billion political payout as war of words escalate

President Ruto’s much anticipated tour of Mt Kenya kicked off in a stormy fashion after he claimed that his former DP Rigathi Gachagua attempted to extort him Sh 10 billion or else he would de-campaign him in the region.

And Ruto denied he fired Gachagua saying it was the MPs who sent the former Mathira MP home for threatening them and demanding that they worship him.

Ruto said there is nowhere he signed for the removal of Gachagua saying he stopped planned impeachment by MPs on two occasions but the third time the MPs overruled him and said they would proceed to impeach Gachagua.

Ruto said there is nowhere he signed for the impeachment of Gachagua adding that his former DP was impeached by MPs over what he termed as self-inflicted mistakes.

He said Gachagua had created a highly toxic working environment where he was at war with everyone including very junior officers. Ruto said during Gachagua’s tenure all he did was handle cases of conflict between Gachagua and other officers who included MPs and junior officers.

Ruto dismissed allegations by Gachagua that he had done nothing in terms of development since becoming president, saying that he is the one (Ruto) who has built the road to Wamunyoro village (Gachagua’s now famous village home).

And Gachagua immediately hit back at Ruto describing him as a pathological liar who is outrightly lying to Kenyans.

“Iam now more convinced than ever before, that pathological lying is a mental disorder. The greatest existential threat to our beloved country is outright lying to the people of Kenya without blinking and failure by a leader to put his team together to harmonise their lies. I weep for my Country, Kenya,” wrote Gachagua.

Earlier in the day, Gachagua had claimed that there not a single project in Mt Kenya started by President Ruto and that he should be honest and admit that the projects he was touring were started and launched by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto is in Mt Kenya for five days where he has a tight schedule of visiting nine counties touring development projects in a region that voted for him to a man and which is now his biggest critique.

From the impeachment of Gachagua, to the firing for former Attorney General Justin Muturi and removing of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro from the powerful Parliamentary Budget Committee, Mt Kenya has a basket full of grievances that include stalled projects started by the previous regime where Ruto served as DP.
