Dramatic new twist in Kirinyaga politics as Senator Kibiru is declared County spokesman

Kirinyaga Senator Charles Kibiru has been crowned as the County spokesman and President Uhuru’s point-man following the defection of Governor Anne Waiguru to DP William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Kibiru was accorded the honours by a cross-section of leaders from Kirinyaga who included the Kiama Kia Ma elders, Kikuyu Council of Elders, Maendeleo ya Wanawake, business community and the Kirinyaga County Jubilee Party branch.

Accepting the crown, Kibiru assured the people of Kirinyaga that even though he is an independent candidate, he would ensure that the on-going government projects in the county are completed and protect all other Kirinyaga interests.

“The people of Kirinyaga asked me to come out and talk about the legacy of President Uhuru. The people are concerned that we may look as if we are thankless despite the great work the President has done for us,’’ said Kibiru.

Kibiru said it was a big honour and a huge responsibility to be given the responsibility of being the County’s spokesperson and coordinator of government projects and he had accepted it with great zeal and promised never to abandon Kirinyaga people in the dark.

He said the people of Kirinyaga had not abandoned the President and that they will stand with him up to the end of his term.

Kibiru said has a very good working relationship with the President and the Jubilee government assuring the Kirinyaga people that there is no gap that has been left by those who have defected to other parties.

Kibiru said he would continue working all the like-minded leaders to ensure to promote and protect President Uhuru’s legacy.

The chairman of the Jubilee Party Kirinyaga branch Muriithi Kang’ara said the people are behind the president and will wait for him to them direction.

“There is no gap in Kirinyaga as we have now appointed Senator Kibiru as our spokesman and the President’s point-man in our county. He will be the one looking at the interests of President Uhuru in our county,’’ summed up Kang’ara.

Former Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari who was also presented thanked Kibiru for the great honored bestowed on him and urged him to go for the gubernatorial seat. Gitari will be seeking to win his former seat in 2022 general elections.

For a county where politics have been revolving around three women, the dramatic and symbolic entry of Senator Kibiru into the scene has dramatically changed the political landscape, and called for major re-alignments.

During the event where Kibiru was crowned those present urged him to go for the gubernatorial seat – something he said he would reflect on seriously.

His entry into the gubernatorial seat would create a major upset since all the other prominent aspirants are women – Martha Karua (Narc Kenya leader) Anne Waiguru (defected to UDA) and Wangui Ngirici (Kirinyaga woman rep also in UDA).

While Kibiru comes from Ndia, Karua and Waiguru hail from Gichugu and Wangui from Mwea something observers says gives him a head start if he goes for the gubernatorial seat.
