Race for Kirinyaga Woman Rep tightens at the top as Carolyne Karimi closes in on incumbent Jane Njeri (Gaceri)

The race for Kirinyaga Woman Representative is tightening at the top as new-comer Carolyne Karimi makes big inroads and closing in on the incumbent Jane Njeri popularly known as Gaceri.

A recent opinion poll survery by Idealmerit Africa on the preferred woman represenative for Kirinyaga County placed Ms Karimi at position two with 31.1% behind Njeri who scored 53.8 per cent with less than 10 months to the next general elections.

Ms Karimi was nearly 20 points ahead of her nearest challenger Shujaa Rose Wachira who scored 7.3 %, making per performance remarkable because it is her first time to join competitive politics.

While the opinion poll shows that Gaceri who is vying on the DCP ticket would be elected by the majority at 53.8 per cent, Ms Karimi says the people of Kirinyaga have started appreciating her leadership qualities as she continues to interact with them and is hopeful to make further inroads.

Ms Karimi who is vying on President Ruto’s UDA party is urging Kirinyaga residents support the government they helped put in place saying its development record is clear for everyone to see.

“In 2022 you voted this government in. Now I am asking for your vote to stand with it, because I believe in finishing what we started. You cannot build roads, bring water, strengthen our coffee, rice and dairy farmers, or open doors for our young people and mothers from the margins of power,” she said.

She says development flows where there is cooperation, and it stops where there is endless quarrelling and shifting loyalties, noting that President Ruto has built 15 Billion worth of 4,000 affordable housing units, which are ready for handover.

Ms Karimi says DP Kithure Kindiki has walked the roads and pushed rural electrification, with 27 last-mile connectivity projects underway in Kirinyaga Central.

“That is why I will not waver. Some leaders we elected have flipped, and a leader who changes sides with the wind cannot carry your needs to the table. Kirinyaga is a people of integrity, hard work and respect. Stay the course with me, Kirinyaga. Let us finish what we started together,” she said.
