Bitter rivals Anne Waiguru and Wangui Ngirici reconcile shake hands, embrace

Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni who hails from Kirinyaga County is said to have worked behind the scenes to broker peace between the two political rivals

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and her bitter political rival Wangui Ngirici have reconciled ending long standing bitter political rivally.

The two political heavy weights from Kirinyaga County had been engaged in a furious political battle that saw Waiguru triump over Wangui in the last gubernatorial race.

Even though Waiguru’s entrance to Kirinyaga politics ahead of the 2017elections was sponsored by Wangui and her political rubble rouser husband Andrew Ngirici, they quickly fell out over accusing Waiguru over arrogance.

Their rivarlly however became red hot when after years of promoting the “Hustler” movement in Kirinyaga, Waiguru quit Jubilee in the dying months and joined the Hustler wave and edged Wangui out.

An angry Wangui quit United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led then by Deputy President William Ruto who is now President to vie for the gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate.

Despite a strong showing, the Yellow Wave carried the day and Waiguru was elected to serve the second and final term.

President Ruto has since appointed her as the chairperson of Kenya Seed Company.

Today as President Ruto’s 5-day tour of Mt Kenya took him to Kirinyaga – the two bitter rivals took time to make up.

They shook hands and embraced cheered on by Health PS Mary Muriuki.

Later Waiguru shared her views on the reconciliation saying she was happy to reconnect with her sister Wangui.

“There is a season for everything under the sun and every season is covered by God’s Grace. Happy to reconnect with my sister Wangui Ngirici,” said Waiguru.

On part PS Muthoni said she was happy to see Waiguru and Wangui embrace and shake hands.

“Always Happy to meet my fellow Kirinyaga Girls.
Our Governor, Anne Waiguru and the chair of Kenya Seed Wangui Ngirici,” she said.
