Deputy President William Ruto took his presidential campaigns to Kapenguria where he attacked President Uhuru and ODM Leader Raila Odinga over planned Jubilee/ODM coalition for 2022 general elections.
Speaking in West Pokot where he held a series of political rallies, Ruto said he was already in the hustler nation party – United Democratic Alliance (UDA) – and was ready and prepared to face off with the new coalition.
He said the destruction of Jubilee was meant to deny him a national political party but he was already set with UDA which he said belonged to all hustlers countrywide.
Ruto said he would not be forced to form a tribal or regional party but instead would continue to build and strengthen UDA describing it as a national party for all the hustlers in Kenya.
He said he would not fall to the trap to form a tribal party which he said was the plan by his detractors
“They are telling us to go start a party for every tribe, we are telling them that the hustler nation cannot fit in any tribal party, we shall have a national party that will fit all Kenyans,’’ he said.
Ruto was reacting to reports that a super coalition was being proposed where Raila’s ODM would development a coalition agreement with President Uhuru’s Jubilee so that they can approach the 2022 together.
Suna MP and Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) co-chair while confirming the plans said, Jubilee and ODM have worked very well so far and the next general elections would be a walk over should they approach it united.
The same sentiments were expressed by the Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju said they want to formalize the relationship between ODM and Jubilee so as to continue working together in the future.
He said the country heads towards 2022 they want to have an active engagement and to create an alliance with a view of fielding one presidential candidate.
The development ruffled political feathers and it appears it is what the DP was reacting by trying to keep his followers engaged.
Yesterday in West Pokot where he addressed huge rallies, Ruto drummed up support for UDA saying the economic model they are proposing will touch the lives of millions of Kenyans at the bottom of the social and economic pyramid.
“Through a bottom-up economic model resources will be channeled to small businesses at the grassroots to spur economic growth. This will be a priority,’’ Ruto said.
