Uhuru leads Kenyans in mourning business mogul Chris Kirubi

Kenyans were united in sadness Monday as they mourned departed business mogul Chris Kirubi who died shortly after sending out a motivational message on social media.


Kirubi who passed away aged 80 years after several years battling cancer was one of the biggest businessmen in Kenya and the East African region.


President Uhuru, who described Kirubi as a friend said Kenya had lost a patriot who was cheerful, and approachable corporate leader who loved people and interacted with all Kenyans.

Uhuru described Kirubi as a seasoned businessman, entrepreneur and industrialist who founded and successfully ran some of Kenya’s largest corporations.

“I have received the shocking news of the passing of my friend Chris Kirubi with alot of sadness. The cruel hand of death has robbed our nation of a patriot whose entrepreneurial spirit, handwork and determination saw him create some of our country’s largest enterprises which offer employment to thousands of our people,” said Uhuru


Prominent Nairobi business lady Agnes Kagure while sending her message of condolence said Kirubi will be cherished forever.


She noted that very many livelihoods and careers were built and depended on Chris Kirubi’s business acumen, mentorship and generosity. 


“The big gap his departure has created in the lives of people who came close to him will be a constant reminder of the much he managed to accomplish while he lived. Forever cherished, Rest in Peace,” said Kagure.


Kirubi who was once listed as the 5th richest person in Kenya had many business ventures and was chairman of Coca-Cola Nairobi Bottlers, DHL Worldwide Express, Capital Media Group, International House Ltd and Smart Applications  International and deputy chairman of Bayer East Africa.

His last major project that was known to the public was the Two Rivers Mall, in Ruaka Kiambu County.
