Deputy President William Ruto has raised the stakes for Kiambaa parliamentary seat by-election after he met his UDA party candidate Njuguna wa Wanjiku with a host MPs in tow.
In the strategy meeting at his Karen residence, Ruto was joined by eight other UDA leaning MPs for what was described as laying a winning strategy for the parliamentary seat that fell vacant following the death of Paul Koinange, the sitting MP.
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria whose party won the last by-election in Juja was also present, his party having failed to field a candidate in favour of UDA.
The win by Kuria’s People Empowerment Party (PEP) also closely associated with Ruto has given the tanga tanga group fresh impetus after they won the Rurie ward by-election in Nyandarua beating Jubilee candidates on both occasions.
UDA has been on the ground in Kiambaa campaigning for their candidate as they prepare to battle Jubilee’s Kariri Njama.
Political analyst say a win by UDA in Kiambaa would give Ruto’s tanga tanga group renewed energy which they badly need to remain relevant up to the next general elections.
On the meeting with DP, Wanjiku said he had held fruitful discussions with Ruto on matters Kiambaa.
“This afternoon (Wednesday) we held fruitful discussions with the Deputy President, His Excellency William Samoei Ruto on matters Kiambaa,” said the statement.
The other MPs present were Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Ndindi Nyoro(Kiharu), Sen Irungu Kang’ata (Muranga), G Kariuki (Ndia) and Jane Kihara(Naivasha).
Njama has been on the ground with Bishop Ngare Gakuyu asking elected Jubilee leaders especially from Kiambu to join the campaign trail.
