Jovial President Uhuru meets President-elect William Ruto at State House defusing a looming toxic handover of power on Tuesday

A day before the inauguration of President-elect William Ruto, retiring President Uhuru Kenya cleverly defused a highly anticipated chaotic handover of power by meeting Ruto and showing him around State House.

Tension had been building since Ruto was declared winner by the IEBC and Uhuru flatly declined to congratulate his former deputy.

As late as last week Uhuru said he only recognizes Raila Odinga who flew the Azimio La Umoja flag as his leader further inflaming the passions of Ruto supporters.

This led to fears that the handover would be toxic and chaotic with some alleging that Uhuru might as well boycott the entire ceremony.

But yesterday, in a surprise move Uhuru invited Ruto to State House where they had discussion and later conducted to a tour of the House on the Hill that is the seat of power.

A dispatch from State House contained pictures of the two leaders chatting in a jovial mood.

While the “Hustler Nation” cheered, the ODM wing of Azimio jeered and coming up with conspiracy theories that Uhuru has been secretly supporting Ruto.

This was being advanced by MP Babu Owino who said the whole saga has been a long con game.

“Thank you Uhuru Kenyatta for keeping your word to Ruto.Your body language tells it all.It was a long con. We will still reach where we are going. If we could not hunt with a dog will use a cat,” Babu wrote

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugi immediately told Babu off saying that Uhuru did the right thing and that Ruto is the 5th President of Kenya.

The dispatch from State House said President Uhuru on Monday hosted President-elect Dr. William Samoei Ruto at State House, Nairobi, ahead of tomorrow’s inauguration ceremony.

After the meeting, President Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta conducted the President-elected and First Lady in-waiting Rachel Ruto on a tour of State House as part of the official handing-over process.

“Today’s meeting between President Kenyatta and President-elect Dr. Ruto affirms that all preparations for tomorrow’s inauguration are complete,” said the statement.

Uhuru later addressed the Nation saying his meeting with Ruto was the final step leading to a smooth handover of power that he promised to ensure it is done
