Tension at Jesus Winner Church as Gen Zs Mobilise to Occupy it on Sunday over Ruto’s Sh 120m Donation

Tension is building up at Jesus Winner Ministries at Roysambu opposite Thika Road Mall (TRM) after Gen Zs announced that they would occupy the church after its leader Bishop Edward Mwai received a Sh 20 million donation from President Ruto last Sunday.

On top of the Sh 20 million cash donation, President Ruto further announced that he would give another Sh 100million to the church and ordered the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to surrender its 20-acre piece of land to the church.

The president while making the donation – sparking wild celebrations that almost turned embarrassing as the faithful started chanting “Ruto, Ruto, Ruto” inside the church – said he was doing so as to shame those who had criticised his donations to churches.

In what appeared to be a direct attack on the Catholic and Anglican churches that have banned such donations and even refunded some, Ruto said he would continue giving donations to churches adding that he was a product of giving.

He said when he made such donations he was giving to God and not to the bishop and as such the bishop had no opportunity to refund the money once given.

The incident, the president’s statement and the wild celebrations in the church appears to have rubbed Kenyans the wrong way and especially the Gen Zs who now claim the donation is from public coffers.

They argue that the President’s salary is not capable of sustaining such donation and now want Bishop Mwai to immediately refund the money failure to which they will occupy his church until he returns the money to the president.

The Gen Zs argue that Kenya is currently in a huge mess and such an amount of money would help many patients unable to access health through SHA or university students unable to access higher education loans.
