Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has now asked Mama Ngina Kenyatta to surrender 50% of her family land to settle Mau Mau war veterans and their offsprings as he stepped up his war with the Kenyattas.
Speaking in Nyeri today, Gachagua claimed the Kenyattas took away all the land that belonged to Mau Mau at independence urged them to surrender half saying the land they hold is too much.
He said the Kenyattas do not need all the land they possess saying most of it is lying idle with only wild animals roaming freely there while Mau Mau war veterans were being buried in public cemeteries.
The Mau Mau and their offsprings have suffered for the last 60 years for lack of land and are being buried in buried in public cemeteries. We welcome those who have offered to help them. But this has to go beyond mere talk. In helping them, I challenge them (Mama Ng’ina Kenyatta) to surrender even half of her family’s idle land to them including myself. I am ready to assist in subdivisions and issuance of title deeds,” said Gachagua.
Gachagua was reacting to an event where former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta gifted Mau Mau war heroine Field Marshall Muthoni wa Kirima a house and cleared her Sh 4.7m bank loan, that appeared to rub him the wrong way.
Field Marshall Muthoni had last year requested Mama Ngina to shave off her Mau Mau dreadlocks to symbolise her return from freedom fighting.
The former first lady and mother to Kenya’s 4th President Uhuru Kenyatta shaved Muthoni’s dreadlocks in a cultural ceremony last year ahead of the 2022 general elections.
The event that was full of symbolism both cultural and political attracted huge attention in the country.
Prominent Nairobi business woman Agnes Kagure who has been central to the event thanked Mama Ngina for her kind gesture.
At the time, Muthoni asked that her 60-year dreadlocks be kept in the Museum so that future generations can learn of Kenya’s freedom and the struggles of freedom fighters.
Mama Ngina said she had spoken to officials of the National Museums of Kenya and the transfer is underway.
Field Marshal Muthoni also requested for the settling of a Ksh. 4.7Million owed to Equity Bank which Mama Ngina did.
She also highlighted her deplorable living condition and Mama Ngina bought her a 3-bedroom house.
During the event, Field Marshal Muthoni and her family visited Mama Ngina to thank her for fulfilling the promise.
