The High Court has stopped government from importing GMO foods into Kenya

The High Court  of Kenya has  barred the importation of genetically modified foods into Kenya.

The petition read that the GMO foods are very risky to Kenyan’s  health  hence the importation should be stoppped till a hearing presented  by the Kenyan Peasants League, a social movement, is heard and decided.

Mr. Cidi Otieno,The Kenyan Peasants League’s leader said comments made by Moses Kuria, who said that it was okay to add GMOs to the list of things that can kill Kenyans,truly indicate that he knows Gmos are dangerous and can cause death to Kenyans.

He added to say that if the government aims at reducing hunger then they would have imported healthy maize from Tanzania rather than what would cause long -term illness to people.

The added that there were no public participation to the lifting of the ban.

All GMO foods have been barred from coming to the country either directly or through other organizations.
