Deadly crime wave in Nairobi: Government vows to crush criminals without mercy

A tough talking, stern looking Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki says the country will not surrender its freedom to gangsters and will crush them without mercy

Speaking on the back of a deadly crime wave where armed gangsters have literally taken over the capital city of Nairobi, Kindiki said the crackdown on the gangsters that have reigned terror of residents would begin immediately.

“In the last few weeks these marauding gangs have dared the government and the message they have been trying to send has reached us, we have heard them, we are coming for you,” said Kindiki when he addressed the media.

He said the criminals have dared the government and terrorized the residents of Nairobi and other urban centre and no effort will be spared until they are completely crushed.

Kindiki said they have noted an increase in criminal activities and that they will not allow criminals to take over Nairobi and make it a city of crime.

He said it was the commitment of the government to ensure that the country remains safe and that they will not trade freedom and security for anything including votes.

Kindiki said criminals have no political affiliations or communities and that they will spare no effort to ensure normalcy is restored in the country.

The wave of crime had been blamed on a skyrocketing cost of living with some quarter blaming the police saying they were on a go slow.

Kindiki denied that there was a go slow in the police service but also promised to look into their welfare.

To deal with the muggings that have been reported in the Capital City and it’s environs, Kindiki said the Inspector General of Police has reorganized the Nairobi Police Command and deployed additional specialized police units, drawn from the General Service Unit (GSU) and Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU).

“This will effectively deal with the few bad apples among the good population of our country,” he said.
