Angry Sirisia residents hold demonstrations over the jailing of their MP John Waluke over corruption

Irate residents of Sirisia Constituency, Bungoma County have taken to the streets to demonstrate over the imprisonment of their MP John Waluke of the Jubilee Party.

On Wednesday morning the angry residents accused the government on witch hunting Waluke because of his political affiliation.

“Our MP should not be harassed by the new government. Sirisia people gave 70% votes to this government. Our MP is not a thief, he was a business person, the case is a witch hunt.

The residents staged their demonstrations, and barricaded the Lwakhakha-Sirisia Road with stones.

MP Waluke was sentenced to a 67-year jail term by the High Court on October 6.

On October 7, he surrendered to the Milimani Law Court.

Waluke is accused of defrauding the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) of Ksh.313 million.

His co-accused Grace Wakhungu was taken into custody immediately after the ruling and is presently being detained at the Lang’ata Women’s Prison.
