MKF hosts community leaders from Mt Kenya North grouped under UPYA movement to a luncheon in Nairobi

In another strategic move to strengthen ties between Central Kenya and their counterparts in Mt Kenya North grouped under UPYA movement, Mt Kenya foundation (MKF) has organized a luncheon for community leaders in Nairobi.

According to an invite signed by MKF vice-chair Mr Titus Ibui, the luncheon that will draw community’s leaders from Mt Kenya North and GEMA will be held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on Thursday this week starting 12:00pm.

UPYA movement brings together several communities in the region referred to as Mt Kenya North who include, Somali, Borana, Rendile, Turkana and many others occupying such areas as Isiolo, Marsabit, Moyale, Garissa, Turkana, Mandera, Tana River and others.

Ibui said the two communities appreciate the need to continue with their unity because they are stronger together.

Participants drawn from both communities will include, elders, women, political leaders (governors, senators, MPs), business leaders and youth were encouraged to wear traditional or cultural clothes.

A statement from MKF said the luncheon will be a consultative forum where leaders of communities from Mt Kenya North and their host Mt Kenya (Central Kenya) will seek to solidify and entrench their deep connections and cooperation developed over the years.

The statement further noted that the two communities have a long list of shared interests key among them economic, business and entrepreneurship as well as political cooperation.

“It is worth noting that the people of Mt Kenya North are enterprising business people just like their Mt Kenya counterparts,’’ said the statement.

The statement further it was in the interest of the two communities to work together especially now when the country is headed to a transition of power.

“As the country moves towards a political transition, the people of both regions underline the long standing political and economic collaboration that has existed and wish it continues to grow from strength to strength,’’ said the statement.

This will be the third luncheon that MKF will be hosting at Safari Park hotel in less than two months after hosting ODM leader Raila Odinga and the principals of One Kenya Alliance (OKA).

However the meeting with UPYA appears to have taken a different perspective because while the first two meetings were Mt Kenya listening to potential suitors come 2022 general elections, the Thursday meeting is geared more on enhancing community relations.

Like Mt Kenya, UPYA movement has no presidential candidate hence the need for the two communities to work together and back on candidate in 2022.
