Under the newly launched Mt Kenya Unity Forum, party leaders Mwangi Kiunjuri, Moses Kuria and Martha Karua have announced a massive voter registration drive in Mt Kenya regions seeking 3 million new voters.

In a statement issued from hospital where Kuria is recuperating, their spokesperson and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua said the aim is to raise the 7 million registered voters in Mt Kenya to 10 million.

Karua asked the Ministry of Interior to speed up the issuance of identity cards to ensure that all eligible voters are able to register.

Kuria who is the Chama Cha Kazi leader said they had started the voter registration drive following the announcement by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that kicked off national voter registration drive on Monday.

He said the Seven-To-Ten Project will be implemented by recruiting 5,000 volunteers in 16 counties with daily monitoring of the key performance indicators from polling center level to county and regional level.

Kuria said the Mt Kenya Unity Forum will announce a website for the volunteer registration within the next four days.

“The 7 to 10 Project will be implemented by recruiting 5,000 volunteers in 16 Counties with daily monitoring of the Key Performance Indicators from polling Centre Level to the County and Regional Level,’’ said Kuria.

While urging Kenyans to register as voters, Kuria elections provide an opportunity for citizens to exercise their civic duty and elect leaders who can be good stewards for their resources.

He said more than ever before the coming elections are important not only for Mt Kenya but their entire region because of the dire need for Kenyans to elect honest, diligent and clean leaders who will steer the country forward.

Kiunjuri who is the party leader of The Service Party (TSP) said the unity of Mt Kenya was critical in the coming general elections and urged the people to speak in one voice even as they belong to different parties.
