Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru gets fresh EACC summons, sensationally links them to succession politics

Kirinyaga County governor Anne Waiguru has once again been summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and immediately blamed the move on succession politics.

In a protest message, Waiguru wondered whether it was just coincidence, witch-hunt, or the usual attempt to shape narratives for 2022 succession politics.

“Is it just coincidence, witch-hunt, or the usual attempt to shape narratives for 2022 succession politics,’’ wondered Waiguru.

Waiguru claimed that last time she said she would keep quiet on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), EACC immediately raided her office.

She alleged that after she recently said that she would be introspecting on the political way forward she has received EACC summons “complete with all the subtle threatening inflexibility.’’

Waiguru said she also received media alerts on an alleged payment of Sh 52 million allocated by the County Assembly for a pending bill that was acquired in 2010, for sub-division, allocation and cadastral mapping of over 7000 acres of South Ngariama Settlement Scheme.

She said EACC knows that the amount in question has not been paid.

Waiguru’s rose to fame on the back of the famous National Youth Service (NYS) scandal when she was a Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and which made her resign from her position.

Her statement caused a social media buzz with netizens making hilarious comments especially those allied to DP Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Waiguru has been a leading light in promoting the BBI document in Mt Kenya but after the process was stopped by the Court of Appeal she wrote a message saying she would go slow and keep quiet on the document.

She was also among a group of Mt Kenya leaders who support President Uhuru Kenyatta who have been organizing unity meetings with the aim of locking out DP Ruto from the region.

Such meetings have been held in Nairobi, Nyeri and the last one was held in Meru County where the leaders vowed to continue supporting President Uhuru and to unite the region under him.
