Mt Kenya’s irreducible minimums, a basis for negotiations

By Dennis Waweru

We affirm our faith in the country’s apex court. We know they will embrace logic and turn the tables on the lower courts. Our grand plan for securing the future of the country through the BBI package will be saved.

In the meantime, and because our region stands to suffer the most in the present confusion, we are placing the promise of its package as a baseline for any negotiations in the ongoing succession politics.

The vision of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Prime Minister Raila Odinga must find a central bearing in any discussions about next years poll.

Our impressive population numbers, hardworking spirit and historical injustices notwithstanding, we have been swallowed up, to our disadvantage, by the ever shifting goalposts of nation building.

Where CDF left us, and even continues to date, devolution has dispossessed us even more. Far less populated areas continues to receive ten times more CDF in absolute numbers compared to our over-populated areas.

Up to when are other areas going to get what is due unto them at our expense? Anybody not raising or addressing these issues in the ongoing jostling for succession slots on behalf of the region is taking the mountain for a ride.

They are sacrificing regional needs in the altar of self preservation.

This is our number one priority at the moment, and our irreducible minimum.

Hon Waweru, a former MP for Dagoretti South has been a core member of President Kenyatta’s inner circle since 2018. He was deeply involved in agitation of Central Kenya grievances in the period leading up to drawing of BBI bill.
