Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua turned poetic as he announced the breakdown of his marriage to first lady Lillian Ng’ang’a.
Quoting a line from a song by Roger Whittaker, “the first time we said hello, we started to say goodbye,” Mutua said they had agreed to part ways amicably.
He said he had offered Lillian a job as an advisor to him saying he trusts her sharp insight.
Mutua said two months ago they decided to part ways.
“Two months ago, we decided to slowly disengage. We are on amicable terms and remain very close as friends. We will continue to talk, meet and share ideas constantly,” he said.
He said Lillian had been an excellent First Lady and even though she will do some projects under the Lillian Nganga foundation, we have agreed she can continue with her county projects.
Mutua said she will be a close advisor and that their love for each other is permanent but they needed space and new directions.
“I thank God for bringing Lillian into my life and the many ways we have made each other grow. We have had a laugh and at times a tear but all in all we have been a power couple and very happy,” he said.
Mutua said he and Lillian celebrated life and were pleased to have reached the decision in a mature, agreeable manner. He said he was happy and blessed and that they have agreed to protect and support each other.
Lillian had earlier broken the news saying the winds of change blew her way and decided to end her romantic relationship with Mutua.
The news caught Kenyans off-guard since there has not been even a whiff of trouble in Mutua’s marriage to the gorgeous lady who is 15-years his junior.
