ODM leader Raila Odinga has sharply attacked President Ruto over the rising cases of abductions and wants the government to immediately stop what he described as primitive behaviour.
Odinga who recently joined President Ruto’s government in what was described as broad-based government warned the government not to take Kenya back to the dark days where people used to disappear without trace.
He said it was a primitive act for the government to resort to abducting young Kenyans whose only crime is to criticise government noting that the country’s economy was in shambles and the youth were the biggest victims of unemployment.
An angry Raila warned Ruto against taking Kenya back to the Moi era dictatorship saying when people are abducted and vanish it shows there is no government.
“The abductions of innocent young people in Kenya. This is a primitive thing. And this is something that is very strange. You cannot live in a country where people disappear where people are abducted for no other reason and kept incommunicado for a long time. That shows there is no government. This thing must end completely,” Raila said.
Over the last four days at least four young Kenyans have been abducted by individuals said to be security officers and their whereabouts remain unknown.
This has created panic among scared parents and other Kenyans who now fear that there is a rogue unit that is abducting people and making them disappear.
The families of Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti and Bernard Kavuli are spending Christmas Day without knowing where their sons and the police are not giving answers.
And from Embu where Billy Mwangi comes from, his Gitonga Mukunji (Manyatta) has threatened to call massive demonstrations in Embu and bring the town to a standstill if Mwangi is not released forthwith.
He said it is unacceptable that young people are getting abducted instead of subjecting them to the due process of the law.
“If somebody has done a mistake, there is a lawful process to follow. These abductions must stop now. If Mwangi is not released we are going to bring Embu to a standstill,” he warned.
