Government lifts ban on export of Macadamia nuts, gives traders a 30-day export window

The government has lifted the ban on export of Macadamia nuts issued earlier and given traders a 30-day window in which to export and clear their stocks.

In statement, Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr Andrew Karanja authorised the export of raw (in-shell) macadamia nuts for a period of 30 days from the day his notice issued on 4th December 2024.

Dr Karanja said the decision was made after physical verification by Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) – Nuts and Oil Crops Directorate was undertaken to establish stocks held by various licensed processors, exporters and marketing agents.

“From the exercise, it was found that some exporters had stocks of raw (in-shell) macadamia nuts in shell and export orders that were yet to be serviced,” said Dr Karanja.

The CS asked licensed exporters who would wish to export raw (in-shell) macadamia nuts to apply in writing to Agriculture and Food Authority – Nuts and Oil Crops Directorate and attach a copy of duly filled and signed stock verification form.
