As extreme merrymaking went down in Naivasha during the WRC Safari Rally a government agency and its partners distributed over 120,000 free condoms to fans urging them to ‘play safe”.
National AIDS and STI’s Control Program (NASCOP) and its partners left Nairobi with three pick-up trucks loaded with the condoms which were distributed free of charge to the fans over three days.
Their agent the self-styled “King of Condoms” and who runs the Kings Condom Promotion (KCP) Stanley Ngara led the distribution exercise that started on Friday and by Sunday the consignment was finished.
Ngara said the reason they were giving out free condoms was to ensure that Kenyans were safe from HIV, STIs and unintended pregnancies.
He said it was also an opportunity to create HIV awareness to the thousands of rally fans and to help stop any new infections.
“The reason we were giving out free condoms was to ensure that Kenyans were safe from HIV and STI’s and unintended pregnancies. We take any opportunity in an event with high population of people to create HIV awareness to help stop new infections,’’ said Ngara.
He said the exercise was organized by NASCOP, KCP, AHF LVCT, and Naivasha Sub-County hospital. AHF were also doing HIV testing.
