President Uhuru visits soldiers who survived a horror chopper crash

President Uhuru has visited thirteen soldiers who miraculously escaped death in a chopper crash that killed ten others on Tuesday morning in Kajiado.


Uhuru comforted the injured soldiers who are undergoing treatment at the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital in Nairobi following the worst aircraft crash involving the Kenya Air Force in recent times.


President Uhuru who is also the Commander in Chief (C-in-C) visited those at the Wards and ICU where encouraged them and wished them quick recovery. He expressed his gratitude for their dedication and selfless sacrifice in service to the nation.


The soldiers escaped death by a whisker when the  Mi 17 1E helicopter they incrash landed while on a training mission at Ol Tepesi, Ngong,  in  Kajiado County.


Ten other soldiers lost their lives in the crash that saw the helicopter burst into a ball of fire on Tuesday morning.


Present during the visit were the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General Levi Mghalu, Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Walter Koipaton.


He was also accompanied by the Commander Kenya Air Force Major General Francis Ogolla, Director of Medical Services Major General (Dr) George Nga’nga, Senior Medical Officer (DFMH) Brigadier (Dr) Charles Kingori, Chief of Compensation and Welfare Brigadier Jeremiah Maroko among others.

Air accident investigators have started investigations to find out of the cause of the fatal accident – one of the worst involving KDF officers in recent times.
