Queen Elizabeth II turns 95, birthday celebrated in Nairobi

The British High Commission in Kenya held a colourful event last night to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 95th birthday in Nairobi.


It was a case of who is who as dignitaries including senior government officials, industry captains, governors and diplomats were hosted last night by British High Commissioner Jane Marriott and her deputies Julius Court and Josephine Gauld.


Marriott said the event was to toast to the Queen on her 95th birthday and to celebrate the United Kingdom and Kenya continued collaboration and friendship.


The Guest of Honor was the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining Permanent Secretary, Andrew Kamau.


Other guests included key contacts from the UK-Kenya strategic partnership pillars of mutual prosperity, security and stability, sustainable development, climate change and people to people.


Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru who attended the event wished the reigning monarch a happy birthday adding that she was honored to have been part of the celebrations.


Elizabeth II is Queen of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth realms. She was born in Mayfair, London, as the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York.

Her father ascended the throne on the abdication of his brother King Edward VIII in 1936, from which time she was the heir presumptive
