Muturi defends new spokesman role, says he is uniting Mt Kenya from the East

A week after his crowning as the Mt Kenya Spokesman, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi returned to Meru where he addressed thousands of professionals from the region and updated them on his new role.

In his address to the Ameru Professionals’ Association (AMPA) Muturi asked the professionals to join him in the agenda of uniting the people of Mt Kenya.

“This region has always stood together, fought together, won together, liberated this country together and built this country together. We are therefore, stronger together. We are one indivisible people,’’ said Muturi.

Saying he is uniting Mt Kenya from the East to the West, Muturi said the region cannot afford to be divided and praised the elders who met at Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga where he was declared the Mt Kenya spokesman.

Alluding to the controversy that resulted from his crowning Muturi said all the views are good but the region should not forget that they have a duty to stick together.

“All these views are good. But lets us not forget, we have a duty to stick together. Please join me in this noble duty of uniting this region and this country, this time from the East, to the West. From the South, to the North, together, impossible is nothing,’’ said Muturi.

He said his goal was for the region to remain united as a people and as a nation so as to bequeath the next generation a better country than was found.

The event was held at the Tharaka University College and was attended by senior government officers from the region and the professionals.

He said praised the role of professionals in nation building and urged them to take up leadership roles at the grassroots and also support devolution.

Muturi was crowned the Mt Kenya spokesman a week ago in a colourful but controversial event supported by three governors – Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka) and Martin Wambora (Embu) and opposed by Mwangi Wairia (Murang’a and Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga) as well as sections of elders from the region.
