Lamu killings; Jubilee Party calls for an end to the mayhem

Opposition party Jubilee has termed the killings happening in Lamu County as ethnic cleansing that must be brought to a quick end.

Speaking during the party’s townhall meeting in Lamu, the vice-chairman David Murathe said the government must stop the killings targetting once ethnic community.

“We insist that the Government of the day must urgently take steps to ensure the safety of all citizens and stop the ethnic cleansing happening in Lamu,” said Murathe.

He said the people inciting and instigating the animosity between communities in Lamu must be held responsible and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

In recent days cases of killings of members of a particular tribe have been on the rise including inflamatory statements issues calling for violence.

Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki visited Lamu a few days ago and ordered an increase in security measures.

This followed a public outcry following a huge increase in deadly attacks that have left many people dead or maimed.
