I wore my first underwear in Form 2, reveals DP Rigathi Gachagua

Underscoring his humble background, Deputy President has revealed that he wore his first underwear while in Form 2 at Kianyaga High School in Kirinyaga County.

Gachagua also revealed that his first pair of shoes was bought for him when he was joining Form 1 in the same school.

“We came from ordinary homes. I wore my first underwear in Form 2. It was never a priority for my mother. Once she cleared school fees, that was it. We have stories to tell. My first pair of shoes was bought when I was joining Form 1,” Gachagua said.

He also revealed that were it not for the head teacher Kano Ndumbi who was a strict disciplinarian his life would have been very different.

“I did not perform well at Form 4 but Kano Ndumbi ensured that he straightened me up and my performance in Form 5 and 6 improved drastically,” said when he met former school mates and classmates at his Harambee House Annex office in Nairobi.

He said they had agreed to give back to the school that prepared them to greater things in life including leadership.

Gachagua said they will mobilise all old boys and teachers to meet at the school on March 18, 2023 to assess the needs of the school and chart the way forward on improving its performance.

He said their no nonesense headteacher Kano Ndumbi will be the Chief Guest flanked by all teachers who taught them as well as members of the support staff who took care of them.
