President William Ruto made a surprise visit to Parliament on Wednesday afternoon but Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina immediately read mischief.
President Ruto made his way to Parliament after Flagging off of the Kenya Tea to Accra, Ghana under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Guided Trade Initiative, at the Kenya International Conference Centre (KICC).
The house leadership was caught off guard as they were having their morning sitting in the August House.
The President was shortly joined by the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula and his counterpart from the Senate Amason Kingi among other key leaders.
However, Narok Senator ,Ledama Ole Kina,has questioned the president’s surprise visit to Parliament today at a time of a standoff over majority leadership in the House.
The lawmaker claims that President William Ruto wants a parliamentary system of government
“I strongly believe that the President of Kenya William Ruto wants a parliamentary system of Government. Why is he in Parliament right now? Let’s just implement BBI and change this thing once and for all,” he stated.
It was not yet clear what the president was doing at Parliament as there had been no official communication about his visit.
His impromptu visit comes after the National Assembly ,yesterday, had a heated debate over which coalition should take over the Majority leadership in the House.
Both the president’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja had already submitted the names of candidates whom they wanted to be named in the majority positions.
National Assembly Speaker ,Moses Wetangula is set to make the ruling tomorrow.
