President William Ruto witnesses the swearing in of six judges caught up in a 3-year controversy over their appointments

As promised during his swearing on Tuesday, President William Ruto presided over the swearing of six judges that his predecessor President Uhuru had declined to appoint for nearly three years.

The swearing of the six judges had remained in limbo after Uhuru declined to appoint them after their names were forwarded to him by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) – a move that created bad blood between him and the Judiciary.

on Wednesday, Ruto oversaw their swearing after they were gazzeted immediately after he was sworn in as he hit the ground running.

He promised to support the Judiciary to operate optimally to deliver on its mandate adding that it is through its independence and efficiency that we can unlock the social and economic potential of our country.

President Ruto said he was committed to constructive engagement with the Judiciary and other arms of Government.

He presided over the swearing-in of four Court of Appeal judges and two Environment and Land Court judges, State House, Nairobi.

Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court Martha Koome, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, Attorney-General Paul Kihara, former Chief Justice David Maraga, Judicial Service Commission members among others, attended, State House, Nairobi.
