Kirinyaga County gets a State Lodge – courtesy of Mashujaa Day celebrations

Kirinyaga County will get its first State Lodge which is currently under construction to be ready ahead of the Mashujaa Day Celebrations.

Making the announcement on Friday, Internal Security PS Dr Karanja Kibicho said the State Lodge will double up as the Kirinyaga County Commissioner’s residence.

Kibicho said the project will be delivered before the Mashujaa Day celebrations and that it is part of the benefits counties are reaping from hosting national holidays on a rotational basis.

“Infrastructural facelifts is among the benefits counties are reaping from hosting national holidays on a rotational basis,’’ said Kibicho in Kerugoya town.

Kirinyaga County has been a big beneficiary of big infrastructural projects key among them the Thiba Dam that is set to ensure rice farmers can do three seasons per year as opposed to the current two seasons.

There have also been major road developments in the county touching every sub-county which have greatly opened up the county whose economy is agricultural-based.

While inspecting Thiba dam last month, Kibicho said Kenya needs a realistic strategy for economic growth and conjectures and hypothetical approaches.

He said since 2019, the government has been unlocking stalled high-impact projects as we simultaneously open more avenues for our people to access local and foreign markets.

“Thiba Dam is now 64 percent complete. This is a strategic response by the government to improve and streamline the downstream production process. Ultimately, rice farmers here will enjoy higher and quality yields superior to cheap imports,’’ he said.
