Mama Ngina Kenyatta builds a magnificient Church at Ichaweri

Former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta has built a magnificient Catholic Chapel at her Gatundu home in Ichaweri, Kiambu County.

The chapel was built on the foundations of the Ichaweri chapel that was put up by the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in 1971.

The chapel named St John The Baptist Chapel, Ichaweri was concecrated by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Nairobi the Most Rev Phillip A Anyolo on Saturday.

“His desire was to have a church within the community where people could gather together and worship. He had just come from detention in Maralal, Samburu County” she noted.

St. John the Baptist Chapel is the 9th Church in the Archangel Mutomo Parish.

The picturesque building is a site to behold, depicting an antique cathedral, with finesse wood finishings, stained glass windows illustrating service to God and humanity.

A virtue Archbishop Anyolo emphasized in his sermon President (Rtd) Kenyatta who gave the vote of thanks, acknowledged all who had played a role in making the dream come true.

He especially thanked Mama Ngina for her determination and confidence and dedication in ensuring that the chapel was built to its completion.

The consecration mass was attended by members of the Kenyatta family, friends and members of the community.
