Young innovator from Murang’a develops a mobile phone network booster to serve his village

Using scrap materials John Mwangi at only 19 years is causing waves in his native Mathioya in Murang’a County after developing a satellite-based mobile phone network booster.

By his own account, Mwangi says since he innovated and developed the statelite mobile booster, mobile phone network problems have eased for those who use his network. He says his booster have an optimum operating range of 16kms.

Mwangi says he uses scrap materials to develop his innovations whose list is growing as the need to resolve everyday technology-based problems continues to rise.

He said apart from the mobile network booster, he has also developed three types of portable air conditioning systems.

“I decided to solve the problem of high warmth (temperatures) that keeps rising. The materials I used were used plastic cooking oil containers popularly known as Kasuku, materials used for house ceiling, and DC motors,” he said.

Mwangi says the air conditioning systems work perfectly and that he sold one to to his neighbour and the feedback was that it was working perfectly.

Back to the mobile satellite booster, Mwangi says it is 14feet tall and consists of two major parts that is a satellite dish which receive signals from space and three main attennas that strengthen and send signals.

“I decided to build one because before I had invented it there was poor network connection. So far I have tested the gadget, and more surprising thing is that it ranges up to 16kms away. The people using my network are very happy because now they don’t complain about network,” he says.

He says he will continue with his innovation journey and continues solving problems that people face and make their lives better.
