Entry of Dennis Waweru into the 2027 Nairobi County gubernatorial race shakes city politics

The entry of respected businessman and former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru into the 2027 Nairobi County gubernatorial race has sent political shockwaves in the Capital City largely defined by unstable leadership.

While confirming that he was firmly in the race for the governor of one of Africa’s greatest cities, Waweru said it was time Nairobians elected a leader with a real stake in the city and with a proven track record both in leadership and business.

A prominent investment banker in Nairobi, Waweru has a rich background in portfolio management and a checkered track record in public service as the first MP of Dagoretti South.

Waweru has previously served as Chairman of the Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest) under President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, Vice Chairman of the Kenya Investment Banks and Stockbrokers, and more than 2 decades in the banking industry (investment banking), currently serving as a Director of Faida Investment Bank and above all, a renowned investor in the nation’s capital

His announcement was received with great interest by frustrated Nairobians, as it came when Nairobi County is encountering managerial bottlenecks and huge gaps as far as service delivery is concerned.

Residents of Nairobi County have in the recent years been marooned by floods after heavy downpours, decrying the years of neglect in investment in a cogent drainage system.

Nairobi County is also grappling with mountains of uncollected garbage, rotting infrastructure especially in the CBD, poor planning, runway corruption especially in revenue collection and procurement, traffic gridlocks amongst others.
