High Court stops the swearing in of Deputy President nominee Kithure Kindiki

Hours after Parliament approved his nomination, the High Court sitting in Kerugoya has stopped the planned swearing in of Kithure Kindiki.

Another order stopping Prof Kindiki from assuming the DP’s position was in issued by the High Court in Nairobi as the stage for the impeachment moved from Parliament to the courts.

The orders have given former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua a breathing space as he fights to save his job after the Senate impeached him on Thursday night.

Ahead of his impeachment Gachagua had expressed confidence that the courts will give him a fair hearing after MPs appeared tilted heavily against him.

And as the impeachment proceedings were going on Gachagua through his lawyers filed many cases all seeking to stop the ouster but the courts told him to wait until Parliament concludes its job.

Kindiki was nominated by President Ruto earlier today, his name immediately forwarded to the National Assembly that was having a special sitting.

The National Assembly went ahead to discuss the nominee and eventually approving him.

A gazette notice was published paving way for his swearing a move that has now been put in abeyance by the stream of court orders.

All eyes now are on the Judiciary that has issued orders and which also conducts the swearing in.
