40 Arrested a Police Violently Block Gen Zs from Occupying Roysambu Church

At least 40 people were arrested and close to 20 sustained injuries when police blocked Gen Zs from occupying a Churchin Nairobi on Sunday.

Those arrested were locked up at Kasarani Police Station as the injured were treated in various health facilities in the area.

The youths were protesting a Sh 20million donation to Jesus Winner Ministry church at Roysambu by President Ruto a week ago.

Ruto who was hosted by the leader of the Church, Bishop Edward Mwai angered Kenyans when he further pledged another Sh 100m for the expansion of the church.

He said he was making the donation to shame Kenyans who have criticised him for making hefty donations in church while critical government services had collapsed by healthcare and education.

On Sunday yoiuths chanting “Ruto Must Go” started gathering around the Church early morning only to find the place swamped by heavily armed GSC officers in full riot gear.

Piain clothed police officers were also seen inside the church beating up suspected Gen Z youths who had managed to pass the cordon.

As time wore out and the number of youths continued to swell, police dispersed them using teargas, sparking off running battles.

The youths lit bonfires and blocked Thika and Kamiti roads as police engaged them in running battles.

Police pursued them to nearby estates of Mirema and Zimmerman, something that angered residents who were caught in crossfire.

Bishop Mwai while preaching blamed former DP Rigathi Gachagua for the incident.

Lawyer Soyinka Lempaa who was acting for the arrested youths said, there was freedom of worship in Kenya and everyone was free to worship at his church, mosque or synagogue of his choice.
