At least four people were confirmed dead Friday morning in the aftermath of heavy rains that caused massive flooding in Nairobi and the environs.
The four were killed after they were swept by the swollen River Mutuine as they attempted to cross to Kibra estate.
The stream that under normal circumstances is a dry river bed with water just trickle turned into a mammoth river with fast flowing torrents that swept anything on its wake.
In the lower flung city estates of Nairobi West and South C, flood water turned roads and foot paths into massive rivers submerging cars, homes and businesses – occasioning huge destruction of properties.
The Eastlands parts of the city were not spared either by heavy flooding that curtailed all movements as roads became impassable.
Sections of the Eastern bypass, Kamulu area and Kamakis in Ruiru also suffered massive flooding with many residents locked out of their homes by the heavy floods.
The weatherman has warned that even though the intensity of the rains will go down, the rains will continue falling throughout the weekend, and urged residents and motorists to be cautious.
