We survived Moi’s 24-year dictatorship, we shall also survive Ruto – declares impeached DP Gachagua

Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says Mt Kenya region will survive the current economic and political turmoil the same way they survived 24-year dictatorship of the late President Moi.

Speaking during a funeral and burial service in Limuru, Kiambu County, Gachagua said Mt Kenya people are very resilient and survived worse adversities that the current situation.

“Stay strong, we were beaten by the colonialists and survived but never forgot, we were beaten by Moi for 24 years, we never forgot, even the current tribulations, we will not forget. Stay calm and go back to your businesses, the day for reckoning is coming,” said Gachagua.

He said he was happy that Members of Parliament (MPs) are nowadays not allowed to address the people because of their unpopular actions at Parliament, as a result the people are angry with them.

Gachagua was in Limuru for the burial of Geoffrey Murugami whom he described as a great patriarch, a teacher, an astute businessman, and a philanthropist who touched many lives and developed his community through mentorship and kind actions.

“I have known him as a kindhearted man, transparent and straight forward leader since I was a young District Officer (DO) in Kiambaa and later in Limuru over 30 years ago, when he also served the community in different capacities,” said Gachagua.

Gachagua who has since been impeached by National Assembly and the Senate is fighting for his job through the courts and expressed confidence that justice will be served.

His fallout with his boss President Ruto has been spectacular after serving for two short years and the president has already nominated Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as his replacement.

Kindiki’s nomination has also been approved by the two houses of Parliament, but Gachagua moved to court to block his swearing in arguing that he was removed from office through illegally.
