Health PS in Canada to explore opportunities for Kenyan nurses

Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni is in Canada to explore global opportunities for health and Kenyan nurses.

The PS who was received in Canada by Kenya’s High Commissioner Immaculate Wambua said they discussed various opportunities available.

“We discussed potential areas of collaboration between Kenya and Canada in healthcare including opportunities for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and joint research initiatives to improve the quality of nursing and midwifery education and enhance professional standards in Kenya,” she said.

The two senior government officials commended Kenyan nurses working in Canada saying they have been a great example of global collaboration.

The High Commission undertook to engage the Canadian Government for collaboration to support the professional growth of Kenyan nurses abroad.

Muthoni said they also explored other priority areas of collaboration for Universal Health Coverage including maternal and newborn care, Non Communicable Diseases and community health.

Canada is one of the Western countries where Kenyan nurses and other health professionals get lucrative job opportunities making it very attractive.
