Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri has dropped a heavy bombshell that has sent political shivers across Mt Kenya region.
Speaking during a late night TV show, Kiunjuri revealled shocking revelations of how Mt Kenya MPs allied to President Ruto have been intimidated to total silence.
He said every attempt by Mt Kenya MPs to caucus and discuss issues from Mt Kenya has been scuttled by senior government officials.
The MP gave an example of when MPs were in Mombasa for a seminar for 11 days saying everytime a Mt Kenya MP made an effort to gather the others, a powerful official would scuttle the plans.
“We are now wondering whether we jumped from the frying pan into the fire. The intimidation we saw during Uhuru regime is back in full force,” said Kiunjuri.
Kiunjuri said he has not been spared either and is being pushed out of government for articulating Mt Kenya issues top among them one-man-one-vote-one-shilling that was contained in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) birthed by the handshake between then President Uhuru and Raila Odinga.
He said Mt Kenya MPs are in shock wondering whether they jumped from the frying pan into the fire – saying the intimidation is too much.
Kiunjuri vowed to stay put saying he will not allow anybody to push him out of government and that he wil continue to push for the interests of Mt.Kenya especially on equal representation and equitable sharing of revenues.
He accused Kenya Kwanza government of sweeping issues that affect Mt Kenya under the carpet.
Kiunjuri who is also the leader of The Service Party (TSP) said he is continue to demand that the bi-partisan talks be expanded to include other stakeholders.
He said he will also push for a referendum that will take care of Mt Kenya interests and not piecemeal constitutional changes.
Kiunjuri said his firm stand and articulation of Mt Kenya issues has led to him being labelled an Azimio sympathiser but said he will not be cowed because all Mt Kenya legislators support one-man–one-vote-one-shilling.
On the issue of the Mt Kenya kingpin, Kiunjuri said the issue was premature and using deep Gikuyu proverns said a kingpin does not crop up like a mushroom during the rainy season but is nurtured and prepared over time.
