Kikuyu elders organise end of year prayers for peace and national unity

Kikuyu elders have organised end of year prayers for the community and the country at Ol-Kalou stadium in Nyandarua County.

The guest of honour during the prayer ceremony will be Nyandarua governor Kiarie Badilisha who has already met the elders and accepted to host them.

The prayers have been organised by the Kikuyu Council of Elders ((KCE) chaired by Wachira Kiago.

Kiago said the annual event held on 31st December of each year is meant to thank God for the blessings bestowed upon the people in the past year and to ask God for more blessings in the coming year.

“We specifically pray for peace and unity of our community and that of the entire country,” said Kiago ahead of the prayers.

The prayers are held in different counties around Mt Kenya and this year, it is the turn of Nyandarua to host the event.

The prayers also come at a time when the country is emerging from a bitterly contested general election where Mt Kenya was the key battle ground.

As a result the community was left bitterly divided including the elders, but efforts to bring unity back have been initiated.
