The Senate Health Committee has launched an investigation into the death of two-year-old Travis Maina at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the committee led by Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, said that it intends to find out the flaws that may have caused the death of the child who had a fork jembe lodged in the head.
The committee said it will invite several witnesses, including the child’s parents, to the Thika Level 5 hospital where the child was first treated as well as Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to find out what caused the tragedy.
Senator Mandago said the committee will investigate policy issues, especially in the hospitals that treated the child to determine if there was negligence.
Maina died on the 11th of October in the evening, following what was allegedly a very long wait before receiving emergency treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
