Two of the eight officers killed in a deadly ambush by bandits in Turkana County have been buried in Kirinyaga Central, Kirinyaga County where they hailed from in an emotional ceremony conducted by the National Police Service.

Area MP Gachoki Gitari said he was saddned by the loss of such young officers in the line of duty but was also crtiticial of the National Police Service for sending new graduate to delicate operations saying their limited experience may expose them to the enemy.

He said more experienced officers should lead such operations as the new graduate continue to gain more experience to be able to carry out such operations in future.

The two were killed when their patrol vehicle was ambushed by bandits and sprayed with bullets in Riet, Turkana County.

The late Constable Boniface Muthini Mutiso and the late Constable Benson Macharia Njira were both laid to rest at their respective homes in Kirinyaga County while the late PC Eric Kipchirchir Rugut was interred at their home in Uasin Gishu County.

NPS said until their demise, the three officers served diligently under the General Service Unit with honour and pride.

“The NPS is indeed grateful for their service and regrets their untimely demise which is not only a loss to the National Police Service and their loved ones, but also to the country,” said the NPS in a statement.
