Ironic twist as President William Ruto holds his first Cabinet meeting with Cabinet Secretaries from the previous regime all present

In an ironic twist of fate, President William Ruto chaired his first Cabinet meeting with all the Cabinet Secretaries from the “old” regime in attendance since he is yet to name his new team.

A dispatch from State House Nairobi, showed the President and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua busy at work with the Cabinet Secretaries shuffling files including bitter critics Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i, Environment CS Keriako Tobiko and Agriculture CS Peter Munya.

The unprecedented move caught many political observers off-guard, and opinion was divided whether Ruto’s bitter critics like Matiang’i, Munya and Mucheru should have attended.

One pundit said the move by President Ruto was a lesson in humility for the current CSs and also the incoming team that he will appoint.

“For me I think it is a lesson in humility. That the CS had been given a job to serve Kenyans and not an individual. By meeting the “old” team President Ruto is recognizing them as CSs until a new team is put in place,” said the political analyst.

Others however viewed the issue differently with some saying it was another form of humiliation for the CSs especially those that had openly defied President Ruto when he was Deputy President and after he (Ruto) fell out with his boss retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

It has been claimed that most of the roles that Ruto as deputy president used to perform were allocated to Matiang’i when he was given the role of coordinating government projects and chairing Cabinet meetings.

Some even claimed that President Uhuru had elevated Matiang’i to a position of prime minister at the expense of then DP Ruto
